The Conch- The conch symbolizes power and authority. When the boys find it, Ralph makes the rule that whoever is holding it has the right to speak and be heard. He also states that as leader, he has the right to interrupt whoever is speaking.
Fire on the Mountain Top- The fire symbolizes destruction and the stupidity/immaturity of the boys. Once they build the fire to signal oncoming ships, it gets out of control and starts to spread all across the island.
Piggy's Glasses- Piggy's glasses symbolize the common sense that they are losing. Piggy has so many ideas and they all make sense while the other boys are not thinking logically. This is what the break in the glasses symbolize.

Mask- The mask that Jack paints on his face symbolizes the way he is changing. The mask of a bloodthirsty hunter now covers the face of a once civilized, sane young boy. Vines/Creepers-The creepers can symbolize the tangles and mysteries of the island. It can show the twisted and confusing relationships the boys have. Mountain-The mountain symbolizes how huge a problem they have and how small they are compared to the island they are on and the things they still don't know about it. It symbolizes their big fear of the beast who may or may not live on the top of the mountain. Lord of the Flies-The Lord of the Flies, or the pig on the head, can symbolize the darkness of their hearts and Simon's insanity. Shelter/Huts-The shelters can symbolize Ralph and Piggy's want to be back in society. It ties them back to where they came from, like a little dose of reality.The Island-The island symbolizes isolation from society. It shows how far they've come from their normal, everyday lives.
